ODOREATERS INSOLE CUSTOMIZER

VISIT WEBSITE Github repo

Problem

Odor Eaters is not seen as a cool brand. Change that perception among young people.

Solution

Millennials seek individuality in everything they do. Give them insoles that are one of a kind.

Idea

Create a customizer that allows insoles to be customized by uploading any image, getting young people excited about buying Odor Eaters.

INSPIRATION

A Teenager's Mindset

As a group, we postulated that millennials crave customizability. Our research confirmed this postulation — millennials look to buy products that are personal and customized ("Marketing to Millennials?" Entrepreneur.com). And this group of individuals that are in the midst of forming their own identities want to wear apparel that reflects how they feel.

So why not customize their soles, too?

PROCESS

3D Modeling

The first step was to make a 3D model of a shoe insert. I did this in Cinema 4D. I then converted the structural model to json data so it could be easily imported and manipulated with three.js.

Learning three.js

Next, I learned three.js. I started with a cube, learning how to dynamically change the color. Then I learned how to use images as a texture. I then applied this knowledge to the shoe model.

Configuring S3

I set up an s3 bucket to handle image uploads. Once an image is uploaded, the user is redirected to a new screen with their insole, customized with the image uploaded to S3 for reference.
